The Brain Dump

So, how was your Easter break?

Did you really enjoy yourself or did you find it difficult to step away from your computer and really relax?

If you're like me, there may be times when you have so much on your plate that your mind just goes round and round — and you can't stop thinking about all that you have to do.

Stuff like:

  • Get that newsletter written.
  • Revamp the autoresponder series.
  • Review those 10 new products!
  • Decide which products to promote.. and in what order.
  • Backup the computer.
  • Test the new software.
  • Approve the MySpace friend requests.
  • Review PPC campaigns.
  • Etc., etc., and etc.

Blah, blah, blah and on it goes. Where she stops, no one knows.

Actually, it's essential that you do quiet the incessant inner chatter if you want to improve your focus, do your best work and increase your productivity.

When I find that my mind is restless (or spinning out of control) with my To-Do list, I take a page out of John Reese's book and do a ‘brain dump'.

It's simple. (For those who are kept awake at night thinking about their to-do list, this technique is especially effective.)

Grab a pen and paper and make a list of all the niggly tidbits that have been plaguing your brain over the last few days. When you're finished writing, file the list where you can find it again but can't see it from where you work.

Aaaaah, relief!

Now you can choose ONE task to work on without worrying about all the other items on your list. Oh sure, they'll still be there when you check the list – but the good news is that they won't pester you in the meantime.

Improve your productivity and ultimately, your income – do a ‘brain dump'!

An Easter Weekend Project: Take a Break!

Many of you will take a 3 or 4-day break from work this weekend to celebrate Easter. If so, and you plan to spend lots of that time working on your web sites, I have the perfect Easter weekend ‘project' for you…

Take a Break!

Stepping back from your business every now and again is a GOOD thing to do. (I know, as I take more breaks and vacations than anyone I know).

You definitely need a break if…

You spend so much time at the computer that your family misses you and complains about your absence. Or, if you feel frustrated or bogged down with how your business is progressing. Feeling that way actually causes you to lose focus and slows your progress.

When you step back and relax for awhile, you'll find that you gain clarity, perspective and focus; and that makes everything about your business run more smoothly.

So, enjoy your weekend ‘project' and have a Happy Easter!

B.S. Alert: Is That a REAL Success Story?

Like you, I'm always on the lookout to find more ways to increase the size of my business and as such, I'm always happy when I come across a success story about someone who has recently made it BIG. Not only does it tell me that the opportunity to build a business online is still wide open (something I know to be true but love to see proven again and again anyway), but perhaps they know something I don't — and perhaps I can pick up another piece of the puzzle through reading or listening to their story.

However, you and I both also know that there is a lot of hooey flying around the ‘net —especially related to Internet marketing and online business opportunities — so I therefore approach every success story with a healthy dose of skepticism.

First of all, many of the ‘success stories' are published by that person's mentor who wants to sell you a book or course that teaches their online marketing method. There's nothing wrong with that — provided of course, that the story is true.

Inspired or Discouraged?

Tuesdays' post, “What Bugs You Most about Affiliate Programs?” received a LOT of feedback in the Comments section.

Some readers replied to the question and posted their pet peeves about affiliate programs.

Others reported being inspired to know that others share the same challenges.

Lastly, some were discouraged by my admission that affiliate marketing can be difficult and at times cause headaches, frustration and extra work.
