Looking for a niche or a product to sell?
Well, some merchants share clues about the type of niche markets that work best for affiliates.
Here, for example is a partial email that I just received from CSN Stores:
CSN Stores is merchant on the ShareaSale Network and comprises over 250 specialized online stores that offer a wide variety of home goods including tools, office furniture, bedding, lighting, outdoor furniture, luggage, baby furniture & more.
… I (Eileen the Affiliate Manager) recently compiled a list of CSN's most popular brands in 2010. I'd like to share just our top 5 with you. Since these brands were such best sellers last year they might have high conversion rates again this year so feel free to feature them if you wish! ‘Top 5' is defined by net number of orders for the entire year of 2010.
CSN's Top 5 Brands of 2010:
- Wildon Home
- KidKraft
- Winsome (pantryware and lifestyle furniture)
- Home Styles (furniture)
- Midwest Pets
CSN's Top 5 Brands of 2010 through Affiliate Sales Only:
- Kidkraft
- Wildon Home
- DaVinci
- JoJo Designs
- Melissa and Doug
That should tell you that not only is furniture a good market, but specifically that relating to kids and pets.
Check your merchants' emails frequently for good clues such as these.
And if they don't share their data with you – ask!!
Hello B Bisch,
I,am a senior as well, same boat as you. May I ask, have you started your affiliate biz yet?
If you can please email me with your progress. I to love animals like you.
Good Luck,
Jeff
I have recently lost my job of 10 years, (feels like I’m missing something) anyway, I have been following you for sometime, BUT NOW, I have to start getting all this advise that I have found on your site(s) and try and get something up on the net. (It seems like everything goes up, and my former wages kept holding me back from starting anything) so you are reading this from a person, who is afraid to risk money that I no longer have. I will need help from the beginning to beyond. Where do I start??? I don’t have a domain name, or a web site, or a blog. If I did, where do I put it? Ok, so I am as green as grass, but I had ten years to dull my brain working at WalMart, so basically, I need to start over, PLUS I am not a “spring chicken” any longer either, so it may take a bit to have all this information that Ros, has on her sites, to sink in. So where do I start? I got the Super Affiliate HandBook, I got many of the sites book-marked, now I need a school to learn how to put up web sites, and/or Blogs. I really would like to not have to put the “horse in the back of the cart, rather start right, right away, and have him in FRONT of the cart. Help is greatly needed on my part. (I am so new to this no job, no pay check (measly as it was), it still helped, now no money in the checkbook, and trying to pay bills with the dollar amount of $0.00. I am going to hang around Rosalind’s sites, seems like the advise is better than most. The one thing that I love being around are PETS. Dogs mostly, and horses. Anything that can be incorporated into some kind of site, or going into an area that work with Affiliates. I would like to “sell other people’s stuff” that has to do with pets, and animals. I just don’t know how to start???? Or where to start? If anyone would (could) help, I would greatly appreciated..
Thank you Rosalind for sharing valuable information on affiliate marketing, i am only new to it and appreciate all the tips i can get. Cheers Anna Brown
Hah. Rosalind,
That is not only a Merchant leaving a clue….that is a Merchant telling you…”Hey, people are making money in this niche right here, contact me, and I contact you further about how I can help you to make more money.”
Thanks for sharing,
Brandon
Thanks Rosalind. I like your stuff, you do have a lot of knowledge about affiliate marketing.
Thank you Rosalind Gardner for the information of top selling products for 2010.
I wonder what will be top selling products for 2011?
I look forward to your comments.
I see you removed the FB comments section./ Care to share why?
Hi Ivin,
I removed the FB comments section ’cause it was giving me hassles (slow load / sometimes broken). Thanks for reminding me to try it again at some point though.
Cheers,
Ros
You can do something similar on Amazon as many categories have a “bestsellers” option in the menu at the top of the page which is updated every hour. The great thing there is that they tell you how long the products have been in the top 100 so you can see what is a fad and what is a true great selling product or type of product.
Thanks for the tip. Always good to be able to know your competitors secrets. π
Rosalind — thank you for revealing such a lucrative market (i.e. furniture) that I would have never thought about pursuing as an online marketing. Your post was concise and it contained solid information that helps your readers move closer to internet marketing success. It’s a shame more “Internet Marketing Experts” don’t follow your lead.
I’m getting ready to expand into physical products as opposed to digital product so these ideas would be a great place to start!
This is awesome! Thanks so much for sharing. You rock π
Hi Roz,
Wow, your update just gave me a great idea for my website. I have worked to build traffic for a couple of years now, and my gut tells me it is time to work more on conversions, and I bet some of the products above will do ok on my site. thanks for the experience and wisdom. Mike
Great tips Ros!!
FYI ….. your ads seem to be having a problem ….. at least when I attempt to access.
Tom
Hey Tom,
Thanks kindly for letting me know about the ads… just figured out how to fix the runtime error. π
Cheers,
Ros
Great tip…never thought of the comparison angle.
Got it! Thanks
This is a great tip! Furniture niches have always seemed interesting but I know nothing about it.
Thanks for the useful tip, Rosalind! Will have to keep a lookout for pets and kids products.
Recently, I noticed that you’ve stopped masquerading affiliate links, while you used to advocate shortening them (e.g. /go/) in your blogs and in your book. Is there a reason for that? Would appreciate your thought. Thanks.
