What's up with the picture of the poppy?
The red remembrance poppy is an emblem of Remembrance Day due to the poem “In Flanders Fields”, written by Canadian physician Major John McCrae on May 3, 1915.
These red poppies bloomed across some of the worst battlefields of Flanders in World War I, their brilliant red colour became an appropriate symbol for the blood spilled during in the war.
Nowadays, in Britain and throughout the Commonwealth, we wear the poppy in November to commemorate soldiers who have died in battle.
