As a niche affiliate marketer, I've really leveraged the power and popularity of social media to grow my business fast – and to make even more affiliate sales.
You may think it's too competitive or saturated, or that only the bigger companies are having success using social media. How can you even compete, you ask?
The fact is, according to statistics published earlier this year (HubSpot, May 2013), smaller companies are having even greater success than medium-sized companies.
Those stats are ringing true in my own business, and with my own personal experience. Friends, family, peers (and yes, affiliates!) are influencing buying decisions on social media channels every single day.

Three Smart Social Media Tips for Savvy Affiliate Marketers:
- Get Social With Your Product Reviews
Immediately after you publish a product review, you share it on your social media channels. Sadly, most marketers leave it at that.
As a smart marketer, your next step is to search social media sites for questions and conversations relevant to that product – or to the problem that product solves.
People are out there actively looking for solutions, and asking for help with their buying decision! This is your opportunity to interact socially with your market, at the exact moment they are looking to buy. <- Bingo! :D
- Tag Your Reviews & Recommendations
Tag the merchants, brands or retailers you're promoting when you share your links on Twitter.
They may “favorite” your tweet (which adds it to a public, static list) and they may even retweet or share it with their loyal fans & followers!
At the very least, you're getting your promotion in front of the company you're working with, which could (and HAS, for me) open up some interesting opportunities. 😉
Using the right hashtags in the right places can make a huge difference too. Done strategically, you can get some major traction!
The example to the right is from the Twitter account for my low carb blog. Having a public discussion with a major brand in my niche improves my credibility – and also opens up opportunities to work with that brand.
You'll also notice (thanks to the hashtag!) that this conversation was retweeted by Atkins to all of their followers. And Atkins just happens to be “the top of the food chain” (heh, pun intended!) in my niche…
- Don't Blast – Ask! 😀
Social media is not a one-way broadcasting system. People have opinions, and they love to share them! Asking, intend of simply blasting out promotions, is a great way to engage your target market and get them talking about products.
The result: “Social Proof”, which gets other people interested in the product as well! Your own recommendations (as a marketer) only carry so much weight. But when other people jump on board and agree, or share their personal experiences, it can really increase your conversion rate!
You can put these three social media tips into action right away to boost your sales and exposure.
