The Dell Affiliate Program recently migrated from Linkshare over to Commission Junction. During the transition, I received the following 3 emails from Dell, encouraging me to sign up for their new program.
- August 17, 2007 – Dell Home Migrating To Commission Junction!
- October 10, 2007 – Dell Home: You are missing out on great commissions! Join the Dell Home Affiliate Program at Commission Junction Today!
- Ocotober 11, 2007 – Dell Home Affiliate Program: Still haven't migrated? You could be missing commissions!
The following snippets indicated that Dell really wanted affiliates to continue the relationship and move over to their program at CJ.
- We are excited about the new opportunities joining Commission Junction will bring our publishers and look forward to an even more successful relationship with our affiliates.
- Please let us know if there is anything that we can help you with regarding transferring over to the new Dell Home Affiliate Program or the program itself. We would be happy to help you.
- As one of our dedicated LinkShare affiliates, your application will be fast tracked for approval during this time, so that you can begin to adjust your promotions accordingly and earn commissions right away!
Well, I gotta tell ya, I'm not convinced. I applied and my application was summarily rejected. Despite sending 2 emails in reply, I have yet to receive a response.
Gee… do you think that this experience – after nearly 10 years as a very enthusiastic Dell customer who has sold umpteen Dell computers by word-of-mouth alone – might influence the brand that I buy when it comes to getting my next desktop?
Hmmmm… It might just be time to check out Sony's other computer offerings. after all, I liked my first VAIO so much that when airport security in Toronto wrecked it, I replaced it with another one.
Oh ya, and that link to Sony? It is an affiliate link. 🙂

I am a Dell affiliate on CJ and am currently purchasing a computer through their small business program. I have tried to complete the purchase online 3 times now, only to be taken to an error page during checkout. I phoned them to see what the problem is and on the menu even, there is a choice where you can complete orders made online. I want to complete my order online so I receive commission, but this is nearly impossible. Now I see why I’m not completing any sales with them! LEAKAGE!!!!
Don’t feel bad you’re not in their program.
Just getting around to checking out the program – thanks for the info
You should go with an HP! You can sign up with both HP Small Business and HP Home and Home Office affiliate programs on CJ. I personally think HP appeals to more people. If you’re into green companies HP is one of the leaders in protecting the planet. 🙂

Bryan,
Good business plan on YOUR part, though. 🙂
Cheers,

It goes to show you that no matter how good your product is (I feel Dell puts together one of the most dependable PCs on the market today) bad customer service will hurt you.
As a PC service provider myself, I am banking on their bad CS. Customers call me after dealing with Dell’s “help”. Once I fix the problem, customer sends my invoice to Dell and in most cases Dell pays w/o a problem.
Bad business plan on Dell’s part!
Hi Rosalind:
I am sorry you ran into that problem with them. I am also their affiliate, received the same emails, followed the instructions and got transferred without a hitch.
Having said that, since you have run into this problem and contacted them, it does not look good on their part that they just failed to respond.
You might try contacting CJ; just in case Dell did not get your emails.
Good luck.
Thanks Gurmit – I actually wrote to them twice and got a response through CJ that an offer had been ‘pushed’ to me… alas, I never got it. Hmmm..
I can not understand why anyone would buy from Dell when they have such bad press about their customer service. We purchased one via phone. There was a special offer of various magazines for a very good price. I purchased several and as one was coming up for renewal I renewed w/a tag from the magazine (Entrpreneur). Dell renewed it also and billed me for it. I spoke to someone in India for 30 min trying to make them understand they must take it off of my billing. Impossible to do. I will never buy another Dell product again even if it was a ONE CENT SALE.
I feel your pain both as an affiliate and now former customer. I spent a good portion of yesterday trying to amend a simple monitor order. As Dell customer service is outsouced, it is quite difficult to find anybody who speaks American English which can pose its own problems. Trying to find somebody who was willing to amend the order and retain the 15% discount was impossible even when I finally told them that they would lose my business. In shear frustration I cancelled not only the order, but my credit account and affiliate accounts as well. I have been very unhappy with their customer service for quite a while now and cannot in good concience work for them as an affiliate. Customer service is key and Dell’s is absolutely awful!
Hi Rosalind!
I STILL like my Dells but I was never enthralled with their affiliate program. It’s THEIR loss. You’d think they’d want to get their “market share” back up there again. Being difficult, affiliate-wise isn’t helping them any. heh heh
Have A GREAT Week!

Sorry to hear about the problems with Dell.
In other news, your new NPT Blog theme/design looks great! You had mentioned a while back you would be changing — and boom! — here it is!
Thanks for all of the excellent material you provide!
Have a great weekend!

Rosalind,
You are not missing much, we just found out that if someone clicks on your dell small business cj link and then buys a home product (all on dell.com) you don’t get credit because they are different programs. Talk about leakage…
