I was plugging away today at building content for my new membership site (the mulitmedia version of the Super Affiliate Handbook) when I stopped long enough to read an email from Stu McLaren.
The email pointed me to a video about the top 10 membership models created using Wishlist Member — software that you can use on a WordPress blog to turn it into a membership site.
One of the membership models that Stu mentions in the video was one I hadn't thought of before – but it's brilliant – and now that's what I want to do with the site.
Too, some of the models that he talks about in the video you wouldn't normally consider a “membership site”. However, once you hear how they are setup, you're going to get a lot of ideas for how you can use it in your business.
Each of the models discussed in the video also includes a real-world
example of a web site using these models — along with the URL, so you can check them out first-hand.
Watch the membership model video and check out these sites. Stu also gives you a link to see some how-to videos. If you decide to optin, you'll also see comments from other people who've created similar sites. They've even added their own “twist” to the “Top 10”.
Check out the videos for really great blogging / membership site ideas.
Too, the first 5 readers to leave a comment correctly naming the model I've chosen, will win a free membership to the new site. 🙂 (I anticipate it will launch in January).
Comments are now closed and the winners have been announced here.
Hi Rosalind,
I think the combo model will suit your membership site.
As a summary to everyone,
Model 1: Publisher model – providing fresh content on a regular basis
Model 2: UPS model – providing packaged delivery each month
Model 3: Micro community model – Fixed term membership (has an end date)
Model 4: Modular course – providing sequential content delivery by levels i.e. course XYZ 101, XYZ 201, 301, 401, etc.
Model 5: Protected download – users download protected files on a membership site
Model 6: Project management – a collaborative site where members are spread out geographically.
Model 7: Community center – a central place where members communicate on a shared place
Model 8: Private member area – providing resources/materials/communications to a selective group of people
Model 9: Coaching site – a more personalized site where each coaching client gets a specific treatment
Model 10: Combo model – a mix of any of the above membership models, particularly model 1-5
I am thinking you will use the modular course, model #4. It came out screaming as he presented it. I think this because of the systematic way that you outline your course and your drive to make sure that the members-to-be will succeed.
Rosalind,
Nice software, I think you’ll go with Model #3 (Micro Continuity).
Ross.
Hi Ros,
I think you are considering the Combo Model 🙂
cheers,
Joan Miller
The model that you have chosen is #1 The publisher model.
Having read your book a number of times I was thinking the modular course no. 4 would suite it well, but on the other hand I envisage you as the community center no. 7 type of person 🙂
So I am torn but have decided to go with the Modular course no. 4.
Good Luck for January
Ian
Hi Ros,
I am thinking you are going to use one of the following models: a private member or a coaching site or a combo model.
Have a great day!
Don’t I win just for being the first 5 comments?
LOL!
Nope..I’m changing my mind…it’s number 10…the combo model….a combination of all the different models. That’s you…!
Hi Ros, my guess in the combo model. you could use the protected download model with others like the modular course and publisher or ups model. Can’t wait to see your site!
Best,
Donna
OK…Saw the vid…I think your choice would be the modular course model.

Thanks for referring me to the membership site video. Very interesting and some great ideas. I am guessing that you would consider either #4 modular course or #10 combo model. I will go with the #10 for your pick as it gives you a little of everything.
Hope I win one of your 5 free memberships to your new multimedia version of Affiliate Handbook!
Aloha,
Maureen
Very interesting video. It is amazing to me how flexible WordPress is for something that is basically free and easy to use.
My guess is that you will adopt method 4. The modular course for your new program.
Jay
Oh no…I was so excited I didn’t even read thru your post to see the requirements! I came here and scrolled straight down to comments after reading your email!Rats….
Michael
I would think you would choose the Combo Model – using elements of all the 10 available.
Ok here I am..c’mon Ros…I’m in Chilliwack…I holiday sometimes at Gallagher Lake……We’re practically neighbours…LOL! Let me be one of the first 5…!
Tks.

Hi, Ros –
What a great video! Membership models with lots of potential – I can see you using the Modular Course (which would be awesome!)
Did I guess right?
Considering your multi-talents, let me guess, a combo model? 🙂
Very cool idea. This of course will be put on my list of software to discuss on Software Savvy Sub so other virtual businesses are aware of it. I’m guessing the model you’ll be using is UPS model.
Hi Roz,
I bet you have picked the Combo model. It sounds like it would be right up your alley.
Hope I’m right!
Cheers,
Rhonda
Bet you’re going to use the COMBO! (I can see the Modular Course, the private members area, the coaching site, the protected download principally; and I bet you will integrate the other segments as time goes by.)
Thanks for the great email.
Hi Ros,
Hopefully you’re using the Modular Course model!
Thanks for the link to Stu’s video it’s certainly got me thinking on how I can use those models with my own sites.
Clare.
I have a feeling that you are going for Model #7 Community Center because you like bringing like-minded people together.
My guess is the micro continuity model. It was really a toss up between three (and maybe four) – but, I’m gonna stick with micro! 😉
Very cool! At first I thought it would be micro continuity to deliver your content over a fixed term. Then the modular sounded like a great strategy because you would get people to actually digest your info and apply it. Then I thought the community would be cool.
But then I saw combo and I’m pretty darn sure that’s what you’ll go for. So my guess is Combo.
