Learn Just a Few Basic HTML Codes
Many people are surprised to learn that I build all my own sites and create most of my own graphics. Well, back in the days of yore when we walked 5 miles through 4 foot deep snow to and from… Oh, wait, that's another story!
Actually, back in 1998, when I was starting out, there just weren't that many professional web designers around to hire, so you had to build your own web site.
And there were some really AWFUL sites that were out there and my online dating service review site, Sage-Hearts.com, was certainly one of them. I'm sorry that I didn't keep an copy of the original version to show you, but trust me… it was BAD. Spinning globes, blinking banners, yellow fonts on a black background and other such horrors.
Here's a confession… the stuff that looks REALLY good like my book covers and header graphics is contracted out to graphic designers; and although I usually TRY to do software installations myself, I now almost always end up handing it over to a professional.
Despite my initial struggles with web site design, I just kept playing and learning – as I still do now. It's fun, rewarding and my site looks much better now, thank you! 🙂
More important, is the fact that I can do what needs to be done to my sites, WHEN it needs to be done.
For example, if a merchant or affiliate manager contacts you with a REALLY good time-limited offer that you want to get out to your customers right away; as an affiliate marketer you don't have time to wait until your web designer returns your phone call, or comes back from his 3-week vacation.
When he or she finally does get in touch with you, you'd have to EXPLAIN all the details to him… where to get the graphics, the page you want it posted on… blah, blah, BLAH!
Worse, your webmaster or web site designer might contact you after the offer expires, so now you have just missed out on a fabulous money-making opportunity.
So, trust me on this… you need to learn some HTML codes. Just a few.
Knowing how to format text and headings, install your affiliate links, and insert graphics is the very least you should learn in relation to building your own site.
Learn some HTML and get control over your sites. You'll be glad you did, and you will thank me later.
Cheers,
