My New Light-Filled Office

I finally made a change to my office that I should have made 6 years ago when I moved in.

Of all the rooms in this house, the office was the darkest.

Granted, the rest of the house is pretty much walls of windows, so it was hard for the office to compete, especially with the built-in cabinetry taking up half the window wall.

Still… after having worked in ATC tower surroundings for most of my career, I’m used to having lots of light.

There had to be something I could do to brighten it up so that I wouldn’t have to turn on the lights in the middle of the day.

The answer?

Cut a big hole in the roof and install a skylight.

Brilliant! Literally!

Love it!

Highly recommend you do the same if your office is too dark… provided of course, that your office isn’t in the basement! :-)

  1. Love the skylight! Great way to brighten up a room and looks like a nice way to add light without getting a glare on the monitor too.

I’m intrigued by your office chair! Do tell! I need a new one and am alwasy on the lookout for something comfortable.

    Hey Bonnie,

It’s amazing. I would have had all lights blazing by now and it’s as bright as can be without them.

The chair is fantastic. It’s a saddle chair, and I talked about it in this post on NPT… Humanscale Freedom: My New Office Chair. :-)

    Cheers,

  3. Ros,

Love the look of your new office. So nice and beautiful. That’s the beauty of having a home based business =)

  4. Ros,

I have a huge window that overlooks a park while I slave at the computer all day, and couldn’t survive mentally without it. So – I know what you mean! Really enjoying being a member of your Affiliate Blogger Pro site – learning loads!

Your office looks so neat Roz.is it always like that? I rather suspect that it is. I think skylights are an amazing way to get more light I have one in the bathroom and could think I had left the electric light on during the day

My “Office”overlooks my tiny fernery and court yard , there are two beautiful parks just 2 minutes each way from my home , and I love to do my 10,000 steps there I have a pedometer, you see,it talks to me , like “You have walked 1000 steps” ect ,( well sometimes it’s 5000) it gives kilometres ,time and calories burned. Work? Oh yes I do that sometimes too but am suffering from information overload right now which gave me inertia. I’m taking a break.
Hope you are well always nice to hear from you.Ever onward and upwards Ros.;-).

  6. Hi Ros,

Nothing quite like sunlight is there? Plus, now you have a built-in observatory for those crystal clear nights!

    Best,
    Mark

    Hi Patricia,

Yes, I’m a bit of a neat freak. Can’t think properly when things are amiss… then again, can’t thing properly when they’re neat either. So…

    Your office sounds lovely.

I need to work on the side of the house to make it more appealing than my neighbour’s clothesline. Fortunately, I’ve learned to look past that at the mountains beyond.

And I get the inertia problem… onwards and upwards to those 10K steps everyday!!

    Cheers,
    Ros

    Hi Mark,

Love sunlight, but I refuse to work nights. Did more than enough of that in ATC. :-)

    Hi Ros,

Love the light in your office. I just moved my office up from the basement and it shifted the entire way I work and focus – what a joy light brings! Now I look out the window at my garden and bamboo and feel a part of the “real world” above ground. I was never destined to be a hobbit.
    Peace,
    Karen
