YouTube Video Earns Family 150K

Maybe you've seen the video below?

But did you know that the 2 minute video had made the DeVore family 150 grand – $100,000 from YouTube – in 18 short months?

Within 4 days of posting “David after Dentist” on YouTube, the video had received over 3 million views. As of mid-2010, more than 64 million people have seen it and 94 thousand people have left comments.

With traffic like that comes money — money that can change everything.

Posting this crazy little video on YouTube has changed their lives completely. David's dad quit his real estate job to market t-shirts and stickers featuring their son's now famous post-dental surgery lines, “Is this real life?” and “Is this going to be forever?“.

What I love about their online store is a comment near the bottom of the page…

When the video went viral we quickly learned a new word, MONITIZATION. Its the cool, new hip word for making money off the Internet. Profiting has become such a dirty word.

Granted, they spelled monetization incorrectly, but what the heck… they sure picked up and ran with the concept!!

Video: Which Clickbank Affiliate Gets Credit?

From Todd….If more than one affiliate is involved driving traffic to a Clickbank merchant's site, who gets credit?

The first? The last? The affiliates in the middle are just out of luck?

Clickbank cookies last for 60 days. Does this mean the visitor can come back anytime within 60 days and you still get the credit, right?”

Right… or almost right.

Even if your visitor returns to the merchants site through a bookmark or search engine within 60 days, you would still get credit. However, that's UNLESS they click on another Clickbank affiliate's link in the meantime… because it's the last affiliate clicked that gets the credit.

Yeeha! You read that right! I just heard via Jeff Mulligan (CBMall) that with the recent introduction of Camtasia Studio 5, the nice people at Techsmith are making Camtasia Studio 3.1.2 absolutely free to download.

That version is actually a few steps up from the version 3.0 that I've used to make my videos, including the most recent one which is probably not the best example, but the BlogClassroom videos are under lock and key. 🙂

You can use Camtasia to record, edit and share your screen videos and it's pretty easy to get up and running with it, even if you're not a geek.

To get the free version:

You'll be able to upgrade to Camtasia Studio 5, later if you want to for only $149, as opposed to the usual $299… but Version 3 should give you all you need.

YouTube Video Honors: Who Woulda Thunk it?

I saw some interesting and quite unexpected results after posting my Home Office Tour and second-ever video to YouTube the other day.

When I stopped by YouTube this afternoon, I saw “#18 – Most Linked (This Week) – Howto & DIY” and “#80 – Most Viewed (This Week) – Howto & DIY” under “Honors for This Video“.

When I clicked on the first link, there was mine beside 2 from Lockergnome's Chris Pirillo, the ultimate techno-video-geek who has 694 videos up and 14,232 YouTube subscribers. Whoa! I am truly honored! 🙂

So… in real terms, did posting the video to YouTube result in traffic?

You betcha!

According to my AWSTATS, there was a big spike in searches for “Rosalind Gardner” which is exactly what I was aiming for when I named the video ‘Rosalind Gardner's Home Office Tour'.

Traffic is good, but traffic with brand awareness is even better.

So, there ya go, another lesson learned – the power of video.
